More about The Schooner Bill of Rights

The famous schooner Bill of Rights now calls Chula Vista Harbor her home! She is a 136' two-masted gaff rigged schooner built in the grand tradition of New England fishing schooners. The ship is certified to carry passengers, 20 guests and 8 crew in open waters, up to 80 guests in voyages of less than 12 hours. Built in Maine in 1971 and home ported in Newport, RI, she sailed the New England waters.. In the late 1980s she journeyed to the west coast to sail the Pacific waters. The Bill of Rights spend more than a decade sailing from L.A to the Channel Islands successfully providing adventure sailing and youth educational programs. Over the last six years more than 10,000 students have been part of the award winning sailing program.

South Bayfront Sailing Association (SBFSA) is a California non-profit corporation chartered to benefit the public by offering programs centered around maritime history, science and art. Sailing on the Bill of Rights is our core program, but we also offer educational classes and seminars, create innovative sailing events and programs for the community.

We plan to start a wooden boat school that teaches Math s while building a skiff. "Build a boat with kids and they'll learn fractions, geometry, and maybe even a little bit of algebra. More important, they'll learn that without math they can't do the job right" (Joe Youcha Build to Teach)
