The Square on 21st - Friends & Neighbors

Denver's Ballpark Neighborhood does not have city parks or public spaces. This summer, the City of Denver is testing the idea of closing one or more city blocks on 21st Street and converting them to urban parks, with a bigger plan of upgrading 21st, Wynkoop St, and eventually an entire loop around downtown. This page is managed by friends and neighbors who would like to see some great public spaces come to the neighborhood.

The Square on 21st is a pop-up park in Denver's Ballpark Neighborhood on 21st Street between Larimer and Lawrence Streets. Open from June 15 to August 15, 2017, it provides a temporary gathering place for a neighborhood that doesn’t currently have open or public spaces. Those who live and work here will have an opportunity to enjoy amenities they usually have to leave the neighborhood to access. The space increases street-level activity and encourage area residents, commuters and visitors alike to consider Denver’s urban spaces in new ways.

The installation urges visitors to consider new and creative uses for publicly-owned streets and sidewalks. It is the direct result of a series of city plans, including the 21st and Wynkoop Urban Design plan (2016), as well as The Outdoor Downtown, a plan for downtown’s parks and open spaces.
