The Stood was created in 2003 by Offer Ben-Arie, who thought it would be a good idea to turn the Butler Building, which served as a storage room, into a recreation hall for students. He presented his idea to President Thomas Schwartz, and by the grace of God he also thought it'd be a pretty cool idea. The building was pretty empty and sad for a bit, but over the years has turned into a giant chest of gems. While the Visual Arts building deals with fine art, and the Music Conservatory deals with standard music theory, the Stood is the place where creativity is allowed to flow free and explode out of peoples eyeholes and ears and bottoms. The Stood is the place where people can accomplish whatever they want, where they can start practicing with their new band in the Dino Room or have their first exhibit in Forum Art Space or book Whitson's to have literally any sort of event they can dream up (glitter ball, foam party, Seinfeld appreciation night, etc.). The building is student-run and student-funded, a thing that few schools are blessed with, and therefore the students get to decide what they want in the building. We bought a remote-control shark that flies through the air once. The Stood's hours are 4pm-2am every day. Each employee works one 5-hour shift a week, totaling 12 employees. This year's Stood Coordinator is Stephanie Knipe.
