More about The Study Room

Our philosophy towards teaching:
1. Place the needs of the student first! Our success is measured by the success of each Study Room student.

2. Be a moral compass!!! Treat students, parents, and fellow teachers with respect at all times. Be a trusted leader and coach. Be honorable.

3. Treat each student as if he or she is an “adult”. Set clear expectations, require a strong work ethic and commitment to academics, and encourage responsibility.

4. Always treat every student fairly. Never lie to the student. Show passion for your work and empathy for your students.

5. Make it fun! Be yourself and have fun with the student. Teach from the heart with passion and vigor!

6. Always stay positive! Place your focus on the student’s growth and progress. Focus is always on the student- be professional and maintain a positive, safe learning environment for the student at all times.

7. We promote the Socratic Method of teaching. Communicate effectively and succinctly. Always start with the definitions, concept and main idea of the lesson and confirm understanding with the student.

8. Use common sense. Teach common sense and critical thinking. Challenge the student to analyze, deduce, and reason.

9. Repetition, simplifying difficult problems, and keeping the learning process fun are the keys to teaching.

10. Have lots of relevant stories that relate to the students and bridge understanding of key concepts.

11. Never give up! Adapt and regroup. Adjust instruction to overcome challenges and meet student’s learning needs.

12. Learn from fellow teachers! Seek out the best examples and techniques to bolster your own skills. Hone your skills through constant application and know your materials- learning new materials and expertise with curricula and instruction as becomes necessary.

13. Many students learn by either pain or pleasure- take the pressure of by making light of the pain wrong answers can bring. Build skills and confidence, and highlight each teachable moment as a chance to change damaged confidence from getting an answer wrong to positive resolve to overcome the challenge. Lighten the mood during the most difficult of struggles and keep the student in the fight!

14. Challenge students every session and keep the pace up. Reward students who rise to the challenge with ice cream or other “goodies”.

15. Ask for regular student feedback on positives and negatives of individual’s programs- Study Room students have a voice and are expected to use it!
