More about The Sweet and Savory Sisters

We are excited to introduce ourselves to all of you that love to cook and eat as much as we do. We are Amy Dupuy Martin and Suzette Dupuy Wagner, also known as The Sweet and Savory Sisters.

Amy is the Vocational Director for Easter Seals Southern Georgia. Amy is very passionate about working with people with disabilities. She was recently married to Andy and they will soon be celebrating their one year anniversary. They have three beautiful (4 legged children) Sidney Gumbo Martin, Roscoe Frito Martin and Rupert Dynamite Martin.

Suzette and her family have two BBQ restaurants in Albany. Wagner’s BBQ has been in business for 16 years. She has been married to her husband Rick for 16 years and they have two children Caleb 20 and Allison 15. They also have two dogs Charlie and Roxanne.

The two of us together are funny, actually hilarious, laughter is our best quality! We are true Southerners, from the way we speak to the way we cook and eat. We are talented, wise, and spiritual women. We are a little dysfunctional (We put “fun” in the word dysfunctional.) We are certainly true pieces of work. You should see us in action. It wears us out to think about all of our triumphs. There have been many times that we have not had much but we always had a great meal to share with one another to make things seem all right. We have had the most fun and happiness that anyone could ever ask for by surrounding ourselves with good people and the love for cooking and eating.

We have started this blog because we feel like it is our turn to show our generation the wisdom and knowledge that was so carefully instilled in us: the importance of family, friends, faith and food. We were always taught not to be afraid of the unknown, to take chances, fight until the end and never give up. We have had reservations on beginning this adventure with all the commitments and hard work that is involved in writing a cookbook and managing a blog. We both have full time jobs, families and commitments that keep us extremely busy. We have always allowed these obligations to interfere with our dreams. For over ten years we have dreamed of owning a restaurant, writing a cookbook and catering full time. At this time in our lives we feel that these dreams can become a reality. We were taught if anything is worthwhile we stand up straight and begin our battle. So the battle begins.

Our family is extremely interesting; we come from “good stock”. We are fine quality and precious gems. We are proud of our family and accomplishments. We all stick together and we always are finding comfort through our cooking. For all of our lives we have been surrounded by food! We were born with a spoon in our hands and it wasn’t silver! We grew up with the best of two worlds, a beautiful Southern mother and a handsome Cajun daddy! Wow what a great combination. Our cooking styles have been influenced by our mothers southern cooking and our fathers Cajun heritage.

We associate food with everything, as a lot of people do. We are cooking and eating while we are planning our next meal. We eat when we are happy or when we are sad. That might be why we are a little fluffy. Ya Think? Mama used to say “here eat a chicken leg or have a piece of cake” it makes everything better. She was right it does make it better, but it also makes you FAT!!!! But who cares we love food and we have beautiful faces! Our husbands love us!!!!

It is down right extraordinary how well we work together as sisters to find the best food and recipes to comfort all of our souls. It makes us so proud to hear people praise our food. We would have to say the best feeling is when everyone knows we are cooking and they are so excited to come break bread with us. They prepare their plates and run to find a seat and then there is silence. No one says a word. They are in a food daze. That is such a compliment, when no one says anything, they eat and exhale and ask for more.

We truly have so much to offer in this culinary world from superb appetizers to grand full course meals. Our recipes are easy like Sunday morning! If you think you are not a cook then just follow our recipes and you will be astonished how magnificent you really can cook. So take a little time out of your day to check our blog to see what we are cooking and we hope you will feel all the enjoyment that we experience. We will try to bring your day a little laughter as well as comfort through our food.
