The United Theatre

Downtown Westerly’s The United Theatre is a 501-c-3 arts non-profit with a very clear mission; to unite the community through the arts by establishing a center for showcasing artistic excellence - creating for the southern New England region, a destination where all forms of art, including theatre, music, dance and film can be enjoyed and experienced by the public.

The United Theatre will be a vibrant institution that expands the strengths of local and regional cultural organizations, at the same time protecting and restoring historically significant architecture and creating a new magnet for activity in downtown Westerly. The project will join together the old United Theatre with the adjacent Montgomery Ward Building.

In addition to live performance, cinema and fine arts spaces, the project will feature a center for arts and music education, create spaces and workshops. The United Theatre will be much more than a building, becoming a hub for arts in the region and a home for local, national and international artists to showcase their work
