The Wacky Shrimp

Seafood and working on the water has always been a way of life for Richard Roush. He started out working on his grandfather's shrimp boat when he was 12 years old and worked every summer thereafter, even working his way through school at Auburn off of his earnings from shrimping. After college, he worked in the bar and restaurant business as an owner of Harvey's and then Hooligan's in the 80's.

After their son Trae was born, Richard and his wife Rita moved back to Mobile and he opened a small oyster plant. He grew the business over the years and expanded to having two plants in Irvington and Bayou La Batre which he owned for 25 years. During this time, he and his family moved to Fairhope and also started a fresh seafood market in Daphne, Market By The Bay.

After two more children were born, Bryce and Tori, he sold Market By The Bay and in 2008 he sold his oyster plants in south Mobile County to be able to spend time with his family. After 4 years of retirement, he decided to combine his love of seafood and hospitality and opened The Wacky Shrimp.

Richard has taken his years in the seafood business and the contacts he established to obtain the best quality products for The Wacky Shrimp.
