Therapeutic Recreation Using Specialized Techniques

The Mission of T.R.U.S.T is to provide quality treatment services and recreation opportunities for individuals with illnesses or disabling conditions in the home and community. The primary purposes of treatment services are to restore and rehabilitate in order to improve functioning and independence. Recreation opportunities are available to clients that may assist them in their needs for self-expression, independence, stimulation, control, security, and creativity.

We will provide therapeutic recreation services in the community setting at the Therapy in a Bin store location in Nashville, TN. We will offer 1 to 2 hour sessions for children and/or adults with disabilities. These sessions will focus on recreation therapy activities as the main therapeutic intervention and may incorporate multiple activities or programs within each session including but not limited to teambuilding games, arts and crafts, baking/cooking, relaxation, adaptive exercises, outdoor activities, puzzles, and many more. Initially these programs would be offered on a bi-weekly or weekly basis on Friday and/or Saturdays in the community setting at the Therapy in a Bin meeting space location.

Bio-Kristen Wilcox

Kristin Wilcox has worked for over 15 years in the recreational field in both outdoor recreation and therapeutic recreation. After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University in 2002 with a B.S. in Recreation and Leisure Services with a double emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation and Outdoor Recreation, she went on to complete her certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, CTRS. Kristin has worked as a Recreation Therapist, a Therapeutic Horseback Riding Instructor and as an Activity Therapist. She has also worked for the military as a civilian employee in multiple locations around the world including Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Fort Campbell, KY, Fort Lewis, WA, Sigonella Naval Air Station in Sicily, Italy and the Washington Navy Yard in DC. When not working or traveling, Kristin is usually found at home with her husband, two cats, one horse, and one race car.

Bio-Antaeus Jones

Antaeus Jones is a MTSU 08 graduate majoring in rec and leisure studies with a concentration in rec therapy from Madison,TN. I have been in rec. therapy for 8yrs. Its brings enjoyment to help others with disabilities to help overcome some of their daily challenges and introduce them to new opportunities that they usually wouldn't experience back in their own communities. I'm first aid, cpr, and aed certified with a certificate in personal training. When not at work I'm busy being a husband and father to a little girl that is my world. Some of my hobbies are working out, personal training, video games, and fishing.

Bio-Larry Peoples

Larry Peoples is a recreation therapist from Nashville, TN. Larry has worked as a Recreation Therapist since 2013. He graduated from Middle TN State University in 2012 with a BS in Recreation. He has a certification in CPR, AED and First Aid, and is a certified Project Health instructor. When not working Larry can be found traveling, exercising, socializing with friends and family and watching sports.
