Thorntown Christian Church

Thorntown Christian Church is non-denominational, independent of all organizations except the Lord Jesus' universal Church, universal in both time and place, whose members know and accept Jesus Christ as both Lord and Savior. We practice weekly "open" Communion and Believer's Baptism by immersion. We know God's Word to be an inspired and inerrant guide to our faith and conduct.

Our worship services are a "blend" of traditional and contemporary styles where people are encouraged to dress as they wish, casual or more formal. All are welcome!

Thorntown Christian Church was officially organized in 1842 during the Restoration Movement of Stone/Campbell. We maintained our affiliation with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) until about ten years ago when it was decided that that group had left the original tenet of being "People of the Book (the Holy Bible)."

In 1857 a lot (where the current church is located) was donated by John and Altha Condra. The first brick building was constructed in 1858. The church was remodeled in 1898 and continued to grow with church attendance and Bible School. In 1915 a larger building, which is our current church home, was built. It has been beautifully maintained and remodeled, including air conditioning.
