Initially it was opened as a satellite location of the former Davis Harley-Davidson® in Burlington, NC. In July of 2006, the store was converted to a full stand alone dealership.

Thunder Road H-D® is owned and operated by Pierce Wellons Motorsports, LLC of Oak Ridge, NC as of September 2008.
