The Cypress Canyon campus of Marshall Middle School opened on August 31, 1998. Marshall Middle School was named after Thurgood Marshall, the first African American Supreme Court Justice.
In 2003, Marshall became a California Distinguished school. To be a California Distinguished School, a school needs to meet these high standards. It is very hard to become a California Distinguished school and we are very proud of this accomplishment.
During the summer of 2004, construction started on the new Marshall Middle School on property purchased by the district at Alliant International University. The new school will open in September 2007. When the new Marshall opens, it will once again serve the needs of all 6th-8th graders living in Scripps Ranch, with an expected enrollment of 1450 students. The district plans to move Ellen Browning Scripps Elementary into the current Marshall in September 2008.
