More about Tichenor Clinic for Children

In June of 2016, the Tichenor Clinic for Children kicked off its 90th Anniversary Celebration with a Carnival for Families! Over 425 current and previous patients and their families attended the event at the Tichenor facility on Termino. It featured carnival games, face painting, hot dogs with all the fixings and birthday cake, of course. Snow cones, cotton candy, popcorn and a photo booth were also favorites among the guests. Many of the Tichenor families worked hand-in-hand with employees, volunteers, members of Boy Scout Troop 1776 and the Tichenor Clinic Board of Directors to make the event memorable.

The current Executive Director, Lori DeLaney, is only the third person to manage the Clinic in more than 75 years. Gladdes Neff held the position for 30 years; Nancy Mahan Hegelheimer led the Clinic for another 25 years. The Clinic also has physician leadership. Charles Durnin, M.D. served as Medical Director for 25 years and has volunteered for over 48 years. Both Dr. Durnin and Nancy were honored at another Anniversary Celebration on October 13, 2016 at the offices of Keesal, Young, and Logan.

Tichenor Clinic accepts children who do not have access to the services and programs. The Clinic has been providing various rehabilitative services for children for 90 years—the dream of Adelaide Tichenor who, along with many of her friends, provided an endowment to fund the original orthopedic clinic and school.

Strong leadership has ensured the current needs of young children are met. Tichenor partners with parents every step of the way. Therapists build a team around the child giving parents information, therapy and tools so they can help their child reach their full potential. The staff uses evidence-based clinical practice to conquer physical challenges in new ways! Physical therapists help children move and explore their environment. Speech therapists give children the tools to communicate effectively. Occupational therapists develop sensory, motor, behavioral, and thinking skills that are needed for daily activities like dressing, feeding, writing, play and social participation. Emory Chang, M.D. oversees the care for children with developmental delays, congenital conditions, injuries, and muscle weakness.
