Tidewater United Church of Christ meets for services every Sunday Morning at 10:30 AM under the direction of Rev. Carol Peterson, Interim Pastor. In 1992, Tidewater United Church of Christ was started in South Virginia Beach by Reverend Randall Orwig, founding Pastor, and a group of dedicated persons. We started worshiping in schools and other locations till we built our “phase one” building here on West Neck Road in 2001. Our church sits on 10.5 acres and is able to grow as the community and congregation grow!

Tidewater church has a brief, but rich history of touching many lives. We come from many parts of the country with varied faith backgrounds and experiences. Our ministry is committed to sharing hospitality and creating a home for everyone who gets involved. Some can stay only for months while some may make this home for a lifetime!

Tidewater United Church of Christ gathered to worship on December 13, 1992 at Landstown Middle School, Virginia Beach, Virginia. The fellowship of new people grew as we received our first members in a charter that began on October 20, 1993. The charter closed in 1995 with 118 men, women and children establishing a new fellowship as a United Church of Christ. It was received into the United Church of Christ denomination on May 26, 1996.

Land was purchased at the present site and the first building built by its members and friends. The building was dedicated October 7, 2001. During its existence, Tidewater UCC has welcomed almost 650 persons during worship. The group of people has been diverse in color, background and life expression.

We have been a strong advocate and friend to the homeless. We celebrate a great diversity of theological views, and have been a welcoming presence since our inception. We truly have been a “heart of hospitality” to the community. Our ministry outreach is to impact all ages of people through worship and Christian witness. We reach out to the homeless, the marginalized, and stand up to injustice. This is a deep part of our church identity.

We value fresh and diverse approaches to faith issues and have been on the leading edge of extending God’s extravagant welcome! So we are here to say welcome! This, too can be a place for you!
