Tolbert was once known as a missionary baptist church. It's origins was a small log church built of logs in 1855. Tolbert's founding families include: Taylor, Shelley, Barnes, Cutchens, Bostick, Danzey,
White, Wells, Windsor, Holder, Vickers, Hodge, Dykes, McMathes, Baker, Armstrong, Weaver, Whiddon, Mathis, Quattlebaum, Nolen, Holland, Roney, Wills, Singletary, Sanders, Ward, Johnson, Odom, Herring and West.
Preaching was held every fourth Saturday and Sunday of the month since there was only one traveling minister.In 1955 exactly one hundred years from the original construction the members of the church began reconstructing the church to include an upstairs and inside baptistery. Tolbert still stands tall and strong to this day.
