Toussaint L'Ouverture - Marquis de Lafayette School No. 6

Toussaint L’Ouverture-Marquis de Lafayette School No. 6 is located on the north side of the city of Elizabeth and is home to more than 986 students from pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade. Our students come from a variety of cultures and countries and along with English, speak a range of languages which include Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic and French Creole.

School No. 6 offers a full day pre-kindergarten program along with full day kindergarten classes. Our elementary school includes first grade through fifth grade and our middle school consists of sixth grade through eighth grade. We offer Bilingual Spanish classes in grades kindergarten through third grade along with in-class support bilingual and English as a Second Language instruction. We also offer self-contained and inclusion model special education classes.

School No 6 also provides students studies in music, art, world languages, and physical education/health. School No 6 also features a one to one computer initiative in grades three through eight with interactive IPAD’s in grades kindergarten through second grade which allow students to engage in technology driven lessons to expand academic opportunities. Interactive Star Boards are also available in all of our classrooms.

Along with a curriculum that includes all the major subject areas, a number of special programs are also available. The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, has been expanded to our middle school students and is a college readiness system for elementary through post secondary students that is designed to increase school wide learning and performance. The AVID College Readiness System accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change. Our School also offers after school programs that supports students’ academic needs along with enrichment opportunities in the arts.

Our school administration consists of one principal and one vice principal. Our educational staff includes 87 certified teachers, two guidance counselors, a school nurse, school social worker, paraprofessionals and CDA classroom assistants who along with our custodial, kitchen and office staff are all invaluable in keeping our school working efficiently and effectively.

At School No. 6, we believe that every child should receive a high quality education.
