Town of Taycheedah, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, was founded in 1839 by Francis D. McCarty. His early goal was to build an industrial and commercial hub at the location. At that time, the Military Road made the Town a primary stop for traders, soldiers, and settlers. The harbor facilities of Taycheedah were superior to those of Fond du Lac and Oshkosh at the time. The Town was named by Governor James Doty. The original name was in reference to the Indian word Tee-char-rah, meaning "camping place", or "our home".
