This also marked the official entrance that Corvettes came back into racing with sponsorship of other professional race teams. As the C5 emerged on the scene in 1997 the team again built a brand new car for the 1998 season with Eckler's sponsoring a C5R for the Trans Am Series. Along with promotional tours and caravans to major shows promoting Corvette racing and the Legacy of Corvette, Jim Crist is also a collector of rare and vintage Corvette race cars. The #2 Challenge Car driven by Juan Fangio sits alongside the rarest Corvette ever not produced, the 1990 Corvette ZR-1 Convertible, built by Chevrolet, Lotus and Mercury Marine. These cars along with others have been featured numerous times in magazines like Corvette Fever and Corvette Enthusiast. Jim has also been considered a go-to source for information in the industry.
