The History of the Tri-Community Revival
1991-2015

In 1991, the pastors of First Baptist Radford (Dr. William Weldon), First Missionary Baptist (Rev. Lyle Morton), and Zion Hill Baptist (Rev. Richard Swan) Churches met together and while talking, decided that they should do something to bring people together. They decided that the three churches should join together as one and have a “Revival”. The Revival Committee held its first meeting @ Zion Hill, on Saturday, May 11, 1991. At this meeting, the pastors explained the purpose of the three Baptist Churches coming together for a community revival to be held in the fall of the year.

God blessed us to begin a park revival in 1996 in which we deem the entire week’s offering to a local caregiver to be a blessing to others as God has been a blessing to us. Also, in 1996 God continued to add to the Tri-Community Revival by the creation of the Tri-Community Youth Choir. In 2005, the youth choir chose the name of “Praise Reachers” and continues to be a great blessing as the young people minister in song. In February of 2006, the Youth Leader Committee, with representatives from all three churches, was formed and they began to plan many activities for the youth to be involved in to grow spiritually and fellowship more with one another. In March of 2006, the Women’s Tri-Community Choir was formed under the direction of the music ministries of the three churches. In July of 2008, the Tri-Community Choir was reassembled with members of the three churches and other sister churches under the direction of Brother Richard English.

After 9 years of service as President of the Tri-Community Revival Committee, the committee honored Pastor Ronald E. Brown, Sr. during the 2002 revival with a plaque and sincere thanks for his dedicated and never tiring service.

Pastor Corwin Casey served the committee as president from 2003- 2004 and the committee truly appreciated his leadership. In December of 2004, the committee voted in Rev. Jenene Lewis as the 2005 president of the Tri-Community and during that timeframe, the committee developed new ministries while being exuberant in doing the work of the Lord, so that He would be glorified. Rev. Lewis stepped down as president in October of 2009 and was given a plaque by the committee during the fall 2009 concert. Pastor Corwin C. Casey graciously accepted the reins again and was voted in as President from January of 2010 until March of 2011. Dr. William G. Weldon was voted in as President in May of 2011. Dr. Weldon was a great blessing as he was one of the founders of the committee when it first originated. Deacon Richard Lewis, Deacon Chairman of First Missionary, was voted in as President the latter part of 2011 due to Dr. Weldon stepping down and remains as the current president. The committee is blessed to have Deacon Lewis.

The current Pastors of the three churches represented in the committee are: Pastor Richard Goodman. First Missionary Baptist; Pastor Eric T. Ramey, Zion Hill Baptist; and Pastor Corwin C. Casey, First Baptist, West Rock Road.

“Truly the Lord has blessed us in this Tri-Community Revival” we have made it this far through faith, love, prayer, and support of you, our brothers and sisters in Christ. We praise God and we thank you.
