The Tri-Valley may be known for its world-famous wines, but these days, vino isn’t the only beverage drawing crowds here.
That’s where the “Tri-Valley Beer Trail” comes in: a growing collection of 16 craft breweries, taprooms and restaurants from Danville to Livermore. Amateurs and aficionados alike can follow California’s newest beer trail, sampling flights of local brews, learning about food pairings and even speaking with brewmasters in a laid-back environment.
While the hype surrounding beer here may seem new, the truth is that beer has deep roots in the Tri-Valley. Before Prohibition, the area was one of the country’s largest producers of hops. The region is also home to what is thought to be one of the very first craft beer–focused bars in the country: Lyons Brewery Depot in Sunol, which was owned by San Ramon resident Judy Ashworth.
