Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded in 1918, shortly after the conclusion of World War I. Trinity was originally named Trinity English Lutheran Church. It was organized for the purpose of serving the community in accordance with the Evangelical Lutheran confession of faith in the Book of Concord, in the English language at a time when many Lutheran Churches continued to function in German and other European languages. The first Church building was a converted bungalow across from Harrison Park in Hammond. In 1953 the congregation moved into a new location on Hohman Avenue and 172nd Place. Trinity remains a confessionally Lutheran, Biblical and Sacramental Church that uses the traditional Christ-centered liturgical services grounded in creedal and historic Christianity.
