Our program pairs a special needs child or medically challenged child with a youth volunteer and a sheep. This gives volunteer youth the opportunity to work with disabled children and to participate in community service projects. In turn, it is providing occupational and physical therapy to children with special needs or medical challenges through the interactions with our sheep. Children who have limited to no use of their hands grab a hold of the lead rope and have the time of their lives. Physical therapy comes naturally when our True Buddies walk a sheep. Expressive language and communication is increased. The power of touch engages these children. Children who lack response, give responses. Our sheep truly engage in the process and become docile. They have an understanding to be gentle with these children.
