What is the Tucson Bicycle Classic? (TBC)
Who: The Tucson Bicycle Classic Stage Race, sanctioned by USA Cycling, the primary ruling organization of bicycle racing in the US. The Classic started in 1986 and is a race for 28 categories of racers based on age, skill and sex. It is also NATIONAL CYCLING ROAD DEVELOPMENT SERIES, selecting young racers from ages 10-23 to compete on an international level for the US Junior National Cycling team.
What: A 3-day USCF Stage Race with 600 racers from the US, Mexico and Canada Tucson’s “mini” Tour de France. Categories include juniors, masters, entry levels and professionals; race distances vary per category. This is a competition for licensed racers with a cash purse of $10,000 in cash offering eual payout to ALL men and women’s categories.
When: March 17-19, 2017
Where: Tucson Mountain Park area west of Tucson and Sahuartia. Races listed below
Stage 1: Old Tucson /McCain Loop Time Trial: 11:00am-6:00pm 3.0 mile course starting just beyond the Gilbert Ray Campground entrance on picturesque McCain Loop Rd.
Stage 2: Sahuarita/Garrett Lemire Memorial Circuit Race : 6:45am-12:30+/- A challenging 20 mile loop on La Canada, Duval Mine, Mission and Helmet Peak Rds., distances from 15-80 miles. Parking is on Continental Rd shoulder area. S/F near Continental on Duval Mine Rd
Stage 3: Tucson Shoulder, Elbow and Hand Circuit Race: a 5.6 mile hilly loop. 6:30am- 1:30 17-50 miles. S/F on Greasewood west of Pima College. BEST stage for spectactors!!
