Tucson Free Pantry is a grassroots solution to immediate and local need. TFP aims to measurably decrease nutritional insecurity, promote health and foster community through providing access to free food pantries for all. The pantry is available day and night, no forms, no applications, no judgment.
Members of the community who wish to contribute may do so at their discretion. Other methods for filling pantries involve coordinating with local organizations, TFP volunteers and local businesses or community members. The pantry is stocked with items such as, bottled drinks, canned, boxed or jarred foods, personal care items, school supplies and other non-perishables, and when available, food from local farms and community gardens that would normally go to waste. The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Act protects donors and non-profit distributors of food. Irregular stocking discourages loitering and abuse.
Whether a need for food or a need to give, Tucson Free Pantry facilitates neighbors helping neighbors, building community, healthy neighborhoods and communities through shared skills, charity, justice, creativity and sharing economy.
