UCLA is one of the world’s great research universities. Faculty members include Nobel Laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, MacArthur fellows and scores of national academy members. Interdisciplinary teaching and research is a particular strength, with initiatives in the arts, stem cells and other biosciences, nanoscience, international studies and the environment.

Bordered by Bel Air, Beverly Hills and Brentwood, and only five miles from the Pacific Ocean, UCLA is in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Mountains, beaches, lakes, and deserts are all within a short drive. There are plentiful shops, restaurants and theaters in adjacent Westwood Village. UCLA hosts more than 5,000 public events that attract 500,000 arts program enthusiasts a year. It has six major performance halls, theaters and playhouses – 750,000 art objects in one museum alone. UCLA has its own planetarium, botanical gardens, and the largest outdoor sculpture garden in the west.
