More about UCSB Tau Beta Pi

Tau Beta Pi

The Tau Beta Pi Association is an engineering honor society that focuses on providing opportunities for engineers to work together, better the community, and prepare themselves for careers after college. It was founded in 1885 as the only engineering honor society that represents the entire engineering profession and is the most prestigious of its kind. It honors students who have displayed distinguished scholarship and exemplary character as students in engineering. Notable members of Tau Beta Pi include Buzz Aldrin, the second astronaut to walk the moon, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com, and many more established figures in engineering and technology, including 19 Nobel Laureates.

California Sigma Chapter

The California Sigma chapter of Tau Beta Pi works to create and network a community of engineers across all departments and disciplines. Our goal is to supply resources that will provide value to all engineering majors at UCSB so that our members and the entire engineering student body will grow into well-rounded individuals that will make outstanding impacts beyond their college years. Community service projects, tutoring sessions, and engineering technology talks are a few of the things we do to provide value to the engineering student body and to ensure that we exude the Tau Beta Pi creed of “Integrity and excellence in engineering.”

The California Sigma chapter of Tau Beta Pi was established in 1981. Currently at about 60 undergraduate members and over 1000 alumni members, both the size of membership and activities of the past serval years have increased dramatically. In 2015, the California Sigma Chapter was honored with The Membership Award. This award recognizes the excellence in conducting a chapter's primary mission - membership. It was presented to us at the 110th Convention.
