The University Center serves as a center of student activity at UCSB while also providing a variety of services to faculty, staff, alumni and campus visitors. The UCen is committed to providing outstanding service and responding to the changing needs of the campus community. It is a campus department within Administrative & Auxiliary Services and comprises the following units: UCSB Bookstore, UCen Dining Services,and UCen Administration (Director’s Office, Accounting & Information Services, Cashiers & Post Office, Operations, Conference Services, Marketing, and ACCESS Card). A variety of other campus departments, student organizations and leased operations maintain tenant space within the building.
The UCen is a part of the educational program of the university. Through its various boards, committees and staff, it provides a diverse cultural, social and recreational program that complements and enhances the educational mission of the institution. It is a place where students can obtain convenient work experience. Many will also gain invaluable supervisory and management experience. It is a unique organization where students can participate in the leadership efforts of the UCen Governance Board as well. As a result, the staff members of the UCen serve as educators as well as managers.
