Uncle T's Food Mart

In our neck of the woods, when you’re craving a delicious sandwich, savory deli meats and quality cheeses, you come to Uncle T’s. But like all great establishments, we had to start somewhere.

It all began in Sunset, Arkansas, a little town seven miles outside of West Memphis. There, Tillman Green opened a simple grocery store, serving his community by providing fresh food and friendly service. It was on these same principles that his nephew Dr. William H. Woods, his wife Margaret Woods and brother Willie L. Woods founded their Little Rock grocery store, eventually named for William’s favorite uncle – Uncle T’s Food Mart.

In the mid-1960s, the Woods family purchased Braswell’s Grocery Store on West 16th and High Streets. For fourteen years, the Woods family operated out of this location, all the while dreaming of a day when they could move the business to a larger space and expand into a true convenience store comparable to any in Little Rock.

This dream would be realized in July 1979, when Dr. Woods led the development of a new 4,700 sq.ft. strip shopping center at the corner of Martin Luther King Drive and Daisy G. Bates Boulevard. There, the family had plenty of space to grow their business into a full-service deli and grocery store. The Woods made the move, renamed the business Uncle T’s Food Mart and the rest is history. For 30 plus years, the business has stayed in the family, and is run by Dr. William H. and Margaret Woods’ son, William Jr., today.
