More about Union Adult Learning Center

Our program offers GED classes and GED testing, English as a Second Language(ESL) classes, Family Literacy classes, Workplace Literacy classes, and others. We are grant funded by the State Department of Education - Lifelong Learning Section.
----------------------------------------

In 1995, Union Public Schools hired JoAnna Jamison to establish their Adult Education Program.

This program offers classes in GED preparation, English As A Second Language (ESL), and Family and Workplace Literacy.

Under Mrs. Jamison’s guidance and Union’s outstanding administrative support, the program has grown into one of the largest in the state of Oklahoma. The Adult Education Program currently serves more than 3,000 students annually and is active in 5 counties.

All of the Union Adult Education instructors have attained their certification and many are state trainers in their field.

The focus of the program is to build stronger communities by assisting students to obtain educational skills needed to succeed in life.

About Our Services:

-GED Preparation -
Classes are provided for adults who are no longer attending high school and need basic skills instruction in reading, writing, math, and life skills.
-GED and Industry Certification Exams-
Passing the General Educational Development or GED test qualifies adults to receive a high school diploma issued by the State of Oklahoma and participate in our graduation ceremony. This exam is available on paper or computer. We also offer certification exams for various fields such as IT, health, and education through our Pearson VUE testing center.
-English as a Second Language-
English as a Second Language(ESL) classes provide instruction to non-English speaking adults. Students learn communication and assimilation skills in order to be productive citizens.
-Family Literacy-
Family Literacy classes offer ABE and ESL to parents along with parent/child interaction time. By learning together as a family, the program reinforces life skills that parents and children need to succeed.
-Workplace Literacy-
These classes are designed specifically to teach ABE or ESL to employees in order to achieve high performance work and product quality. Union’s instruction staff will identify tasks important to the employer and make those tasks the focus of basic skills.
