In 1964 United Community Corporation (UCC) one of the oldest non-profit community action agencies in the City of Newark opened its doors. As a call to action under President Lyndon B. Johnson's "War on Poverty" campaign, UCC became the designated anti-poverty agency for the City of Newark. UCC was tasked with the mission of assisting the City's underserved population by providing services to help them gain economic equality.
