Unity of Miami Gardens

About Our Church

Unity Light of the World was established in 1982, in the North Dade community, that is now Miami Gardens, Florida.

On October 10, 1982, Unity Light of the World held its first worship service at the Holiday Inn, Golden Glades. Rev. Wildorf E. Goodison Orr began to plant vital seeds of truth into the hearts and minds of a group of students who wanted to live the Unity way. For the next six months services were held between Holiday Inn and Ramada Inn in Scott Lake.

In 1983 the church relocated to the 195th Street Shopping Plaza which included a sanctuary, office, Sunday school, as well as a bookstore. Many seeds began to take root and from the pure substance of Being the evidence of prayer sprouted. Trusting in Rev. Goodie's wisdom and vision and with the support of the forward thinking Board of Trustees, the membership stepped out in faith and our present location was purchased and a contractor hired in 1987. With willing hands and hearts, the building was renovated and the grounds cleared to make this our new home.

The first service in our new church home was held in December 1988 and on that day we dedicated and consecrated the building and grounds. The congregation grew and many souls were blessed as Rev. Goodie, a master teacher, proclaimed the good news of the Christ within. In 1994, Rev. Goodie retired. Over the years we have experienced seasons of seedtime and harvest through the leaders who have helped us grow in loving service and community. Rev. Ruth Woods Taylor, Rev. David Maloney, Rev. Veda Wong Chuck, Rev. Michael Smith, and Rev. Kevin Ross all planted seeds of love and transformation. In 2010, Rev. Dr. Joanna Gabriel, came to us and has inspired us to greater commitment and community.

As the members entered their 30th year anniversary in 2012, we joined the Unity Identity Project and embraced a name change. We are now Unity of Miami Gardens. Worship service is held at 11:00 am on Sunday morning, beginning with Praise and Worship songs at 10:45 am.

Our Vision: Unity of Miami Gardens seeks to create a teaching and motivational spiritual system that inspires all to new, ever higher levels of God awareness and experience.
