The oldest and most respected imaging center in the Tampa Bay area is University Diagnostic Institute (UDI). This premier outpatient medical imaging facility was founded in 1983 on the campus of the University of South Florida, down the street from USF Morsani Clinics and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. It was the first specialized high-tech medical imaging center in Tampa. The first Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scanner in the Bay area began operations here in 1984. Since then, the original MRI equipment has been upgraded to 1.5 Tesla strength MRI and joined by a 3.0 Tesla MRI, as well as a 64 slice CT scanner which are the most sophisticated and advanced medical imaging scanner available for clinical imaging today.
