Moss completed this 10-story Biomedical Research Center, Garage, and Central Energy Plant at the UM Medical Campus. The $74.4 million Biomedical Building consists of 100,928 SF of lab and 64,709 SF of office space. Its 10-story structure includes critical components typically incorporated in various types of world-class research centers, all under one roof.
The facility features 20,000 SF of vivarium space for both large and small animals, a Class 10,000 cGMP manufacturing lab, BSL II wet labs, a 20,000 lb bulk sterilizer, a -80 degree freezer farm, case wash quarantines, instrument rooms, an imaging suite with MRI, C/T and catheterization lab, flexible office space, and a conference center. The roof level and mezzanine include high induction lab exhaust fans, custom air handling units, energy recover units, central air compressors and vacuum, and a dedicated air system for the cGMP lab.
As construction manager, Moss constructed all work within a densely populated urban community while maintaining full operations of existing hospitals and medical buildings. The assignment represents one of 7 projects exceeding $264 million that key Moss executives have built for this owner over the past 10 years. Built to achieve LEED Silver certification.
