The Phillis Wheatley Association (PWA) was establish in 1919 to offer help to those in need. Since its founding, the organization has been a guiding light to children and families. The PWA offers educational, cultural, recreational, social, and health related programs. These programs help to promote self-sufficiency and enhance one’s quality of life.

Programs:

The PWA "New Sound" Jazz Ensemble: Beginning in 2012 the PWA welcomed another artistic program to its list. The "New Sound" Jazz Ensemble enables ten students to learn how to play instruments of percussion or the trumpet to make up the "New Sound".

PWA/ Dwight Woods Repertory Theatre: There is always something new and exciting happening at the PWA/ Dwight Woods Repertory Theatre. Where are stars shine BRIGHT! For nearly 30 years the PWA has been proud to send our "best of the best" to the Repertory Theatre where they are trained in song, dance, and stage acting. Let's Move Summer Enrichment Camp and Afterschool Program: For the past two years more than 200 hundred students have enrolled annually to join the PWA and Nicholtown Missionary Baptist Church's Let's Move Summer Enrichment Camp. In this program children have fun as they learn life skills and healthy living. Several Partner's such as, Boy Scouts of America, the YWCA, Goodwill, and the Urban league have played a huge role in the success of such an amazing program.
