U.S. VETS - Los Angeles

U.S.VETS - Los Angeles is the inaugural site for United States Veterans Initiative and is the model upon which all the other sites were based. Since opening our doors in 1993, U.S.VETS - Los Angeles has served more than 10,000 veterans. Our site provides drug & alcohol free housing for veterans with comprehensive supportive services including individual case management, counseling, employment assistance, job placement and social activities .
Our Core Housing Programs:
VETERANS IN PROGRESS (VIP): The VIP work re-entry program prepares veterans to obtain and maintain employment while providing comprehensive support including housing, counseling and basic needs.
FATHERS PROGRAM: The Fathers Program assists non-custodial fathers to become more emotionally and financially involved in their children's lives and helps them find employment along with comprehensive support.
HIGH BARRIERS PROGRAM: The High Barriers program works with veterans who have additional obstacles to overcome in seeking employment including advanced age, a history of felonies and incarceration or long periods of unemployment.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES COORDINATION AGENCY (SASCA): The SASCA program works in conjunction with a community parolee program to provide case management, substance abuse education and re-entry programs for veterans.
LONG-TERM SUPPORTIVE HOUSING: Many veterans choose to live in a sober, veteran-specific community and the Long-Term Supportive Housing provides affordable, sober, service-enriched rental housing for vets with employment or other income such as disability.
PERMANENT HOUSING: In 2011 Westside II opened with 196 beds of Permanent Housing for low-income veterans.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT: The Workforce Development Department offers career counseling, training, interviewing skills, job placement services and employment support to veterans. Residency at U.S.VETS is NOT required for veterans to access the Workforce services.
