More about USC Institute of Urology

Welcome to the USC Institute of Urology and the Catherine & Joseph Aresty Department of Urology! Based at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, our team comprises over 60 faculty researchers, surgeons, oncologists, residents and post-graduate fellows dedicated to advancing the field and science of urology.

Our Institute offers the complete range of basic and advanced clinical sub-specialty expertise in urology. Our forte is advanced robotic, laparoscopic and open surgical expertise, delivered in an exceptional, personalized care, patient-centered setting.

We have assembled a surgical and medical team renowned for its cutting-edge expertise, innovative research and novel technologies. We are committed to the highest standards of comprehensive urologic care, and look forward to serving patients and partnering with referring physicians regionally, nationally and internationally.

USC urologists are recognized leaders in kidney cancer (robotic/laparoscopic kidney-sparing surgery), bladder cancer (radical cystectomy and continent diversion), and prostate cancer (image-guided high-precision prostate biopsy, robotic nerve-sparing prostate surgery, prostate-sparing, focal therapy). Our pediatric urologists constitute
one of the most experienced teams in the nation, one with skills in basic, advanced and robotic pediatric surgeries. We are pioneering less invasive techniques, such as scar-free “belly-button” surgery. Our scientists and surgeons are performing innovative research in epigenetics, prostate and bladder cancer biology, and in novel focal therapy approaches for prostate cancer.

The Catherine & Joseph Aresty Department of Urology has long had a
distinguished legacy of excellence under the exceptional leadership of Donald G. Skinner, MD, who retired in January 2009 after 29 years as chairman. We now look forward to the future with renewed vigor, energy and team commitment to excellence.
