UVM Extension New Farmer Project

The New Farmer Project is an effort to draw together information and resources within Extension and the broader Vermont Agriculture community that will assist new farmers in creating successful ag businesses. There are many resources available to farmers in Vermont, but finding the right information at the right time can be challenge for new farmers.

By collaborating among departments within Extension and partners in the non-profit and government organizations serving farmers, we put our efforts into gathering the information most applicable to new farmers and bringing it to this site. Behind the scenes we are searching, gathering, collaborating and presenting the information you need to be a successful farmer. Through our efforts, we hope to streamline your access to services and information that will assist you most.

We work with partner organizations to avoid duplication of efforts, and where possible to identify and fill gaps.

The business of farming is constantly evolving. To help keep us on the cutting edge of interests and needs in the new farmer community, we have a committee of eight new farmers from diverse production backgrounds. This committee provides guidance the project and its initiatives. Farmers help us plan and deliver workshops and classes, and review project informational and educational materials. We also rely on feedback from users of our website and participants in our workshops, webinars and classes. So when the opportunity arises, please give us your input and help shape the future of the New Farmer Project.
