More about Ventura Powerhouse Church of the Nazarene

WHAT IS POWERHOUSE CHURCH ALL ABOUT?
We are an informal, multicultural, multigenerational church whose mission is simply to know Jesus Christ, to grow in faith, & to show God's love. We also just enjoy being together & would love for you to hang out with us.

WHAT TIME DOES CHURCH BEGIN?
The service begins at 9:30 am. Serve-yourself coffee and goodies are available in the entry to the auditorium beginning at 9:00 am. Please feel free to take them into the service with you (did we mention we’re informal?). There will be greeters at the door into the sanctuary (auditorium) who will be able to answer your questions.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO HAPPEN IN A SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE?
The service will begin with great music, led by Garrett and a talented group of musicians. You’re welcome to sing along, if you like, and sit or stand during the music time, whatever’s comfortable for you. Words to the songs will be on a screen at the front. Pastor Dan Hull always shares an uplifting message that is pertinent to our everyday lives. The printed program will have key points from the message inside and announcements on the back.

WHAT ABOUT CHILDREN?
There is a nursery for babies and toddlers where little ones receive tender care throughout the service. The door to the nursery is in the entry area, to the left of the auditorium door. Your baby will be lovingly welcome there, if you wish. There will be activities for children during the message portion of the service. Children are invited to sit with you and join in the singing part of the service. They may leave the service after the music (ask a greeter for more information). Feel free to go with your child to introduce them. Babies and children are always welcome to stay with you in the service, if you prefer.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
We celebrate that we are a diverse group, & we invite you to just be you. Some people may dress up & others may come in T-shirts and shorts, so we encourage you to wear whatever you will feel most comfortable in.

WHAT ABOUT PARKING?
There are two parking lots directly behind the church, entered from Jordan Ave, as well as on-street parking on Jordan (no parking on Seaward or Ocean Ave.). The easiest direct entrance into the church is on the Ocean Ave side of the building (through the parking lot to the sidewalk). There is also an entrance from the parking lot into the fellowship room before 9:30 am. A greeter will help you find the auditorium from there.

WHERE ARE RESTROOMS LOCATED? There are men’s and women’s restrooms in the hall between the auditorium and the fellowship room. There is a unisex, handicap accessible restroom in the entry, to the right of the auditorium door. There is a women’s restroom on the far side of the auditorium, with the door located at the back of the auditorium, next to the tech booth. Ask a greeter for directions to any of the locations. There are also restrooms in the children’s areas.

WILL I BE EXPECTED TO GIVE MONEY?
No. An offering will be taken so that frequent attenders have the opportunity to contribute to the work of the church & God’s larger kingdom as an expression of their love and gratitude to God. However, no one is obligated to give, and as a visitor, you are our guest & do not need to participate in the offering.

WHAT OTHER OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE?
Each Sunday evening of the month, at 5:00 pm, there is a different activity for adults at the church: fellowship, praise and worship, Bible study, prayer, or current issues.
Tuesdays at 10:30 am there is an adult Bible study in the fellowship room.
Wednesdays at 6:00 pm a fellowship dinner is served for all ages, followed by adult Bible study, activities for kids, and youth group.
There are also many opportunities to become involved in the life of the church as a volunteer.

We would be excited to have you check us out, no strings attached. Come once and give us a try. No one will show up at your door, but if you’d like to stay in touch or find out more about us, fill out a “Next Step” card (in the rack in front of your seat) and drop it in the offering plate, or hand it to a greeter.

We’ll be looking for you! Hope you’ll come!
