Virginia Ram Test

The Virginia Ram Test is conduced at the Virginia Sheep Evaluation Station located on the Virginia Tech Shenandoah Valley Ag Research and Extension Center. The purpose of the program is to: 1) provide a standard, impartial postweaning performance test that will furnish records which will be useful to the consignor’s breeding program, 2) to provide a source of and market for performance tested rams, and 3) serve as an educational tool for the sheep industry. An annual sale for rams completing the test and meeting qualification requirements is held annually the 4th Saturday in August. A Sheep Field Day is held in conjunction with the sale. Additionally, a select group of commercial ewes lambs are offered for sale along with the rams.
