More about Visit Lancaster City

Since 2006, the Mayor's Office of Special Events, or MOOSE, has worked hard to promote the city of Lancaster, and to enhance the quality-of-life for its residents. We’ve provided events that bring people together to celebrate our unique city, and we partner with local businesses and organizations to make our community stronger.

In 2008, we partnered with LancasterARTS, Lancaster City Alliance, Pennsylvania Dutch Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square and the Lancaster Arts Hotel to begin promoting Lancaster City as a visitor’s destination.

Lancaster’s vibrant and growing arts culture was key in this effort! In 2012, LancasterARTS merged with MOOSE, creating a unified voice for the city. And, we’ve since kept busy promoting the city we love, but the merger also gave us the unique chance to re-evaluate our mission.

So we went to the community for input! 15 interviews with a variety of organizations, 6 focus groups in the arts community, and 360 online surveys from the public and art patrons, gave us the critical feedback we needed.

It quickly became clear that there is a need for a single organization in Lancaster to promote the arts, culture, retail, dining attractions and events that the City has to offer, along with managing Visitor Services – acting as a concierge for our guests. That is where the City of Lancaster Office of Promotion (LOOP) comes in!

Our vision is to see The City of Lancaster’s ideal urban lifestyle thrive on our vibrant creativity, rich diversity, and innovative spirit.

Our mission is for the City of Lancaster Office of Promotion to be the arts and cultural driver, by leveraging Lancaster City’s best assets and our partnerships to enhance and promote the City’s quality of life, economic vitality, and attractiveness as a destination and residence.

We’ll continue to produce special events like First Friday, Music Friday, Red Rose Run, Celebrate Lancaster and Downtown Lancaster for the Holidays. We’ll also continue to provide the coordination of all City services for events. Lastly, the City of Lancaster Office of Promotion will now be the sole organization to market the City of Lancaster to local and regional audiences.

We’re incredibly excited for the future of our organization and for the role it will play to elevate the City of Lancaster as a visitor destination.
