Wailua Homesteads is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kauai County, Hawaii, United States. The population was 5,188 at the 2010 census.GeographyWailua Homesteads is located at .According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.1 square miles, of which, 7.0 square miles of it is land and 0.1 square miles of it is water.DemographicsAs of the census of 2000, there were 4,567 people, 1,655 households, and 1,189 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 648.6 people per square mile (250.5/km²). There were 1,758 housing units at an average density of 249.7 per square mile (96.4/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 39.9% White, 0.4% African American, 0.4% Native American, 24.3% Asian, 7.9% Pacific Islander, 1.0% from other races, and 26.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.8% of the population.There were 1,655 households out of which 35.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.6% were married couples living together, 10.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.1% were non-families. 19.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.14.
