Watonga Community Theatre, Inc. began in 1983 with its first production of Plaza Suite in a junior high school auditorium. Since that inauspicious
beginning Watonga Community Theatre has performed more than 40 productions
in its permanent home, the Liberty Theatre, a facility conceived and
renovated from an old movie house. An annex housing the costume, dressing
rooms and scene shop was added in 1992.
Outstanding Productions
"Waiting for the Parade"
won Outstanding Production at the State Conference of Plays OCTAFest '93. This play advanced all the way to the National Play Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee.
"Last Chance Texaco" won Outstanding Production at the State Conference of Plays OCTAFest '91. This play advanced and won second place in the six state Regional Play Festival. In 1993, their first year of eligibility, Watonga Community Theatre was named Oklahoma's Theatre of the Year. "The Company" has a proud tradition of outstanding performance and representation of competition.
