We were originally named "The Design Dept" because we did a lot of graphic design, such as CD covers, newsletters, posters, etc. Since we also did professional photography and video, the Design Dept was a "catch all" title. As of the first of the year (2016) we've changed our name to Web Commerce Consultant because consulting became the most important job we did for local businesses. Most of the businesses we worked with had no idea about how to get more traffic to their website. They had websites that didn't work properly, or websites that had no call-to-actions, no entry forms for collecting the visitors information, or had horrible SEO (Search Engine Optimization). What we do, in a nutshell, is sit down with the client and consult with them about the things they must do to be competitive in the niche their business is in. Who is their competition? All we have to do is put in the search terms that a prospective client or customer would put in and see who the top 5 business are that Google places in those spots on page one. That's your competition! You need to be there INSTEAD of them, ok? And what we do next is dig in and find out WHY they are there and what we have to do to get ahead of them and move into one of those spots. Of course, we aim for the number one spot on page one. No one can guarantee a number one spot as google changes their algo (how they decide who gets ranked at each spot) from time to time. SEO is a constant battle and most businesses have no idea that this is the case. They think, hey, we just throw up a website and they will come. No way, some will come, but if you are going to rank high on the search engines, you have to put in the time to make sure everything is just how Google wants it. We never use techniques that Google would disapprove of because, even if it works for a while, eventually Google figures out that you are trying to "game" the system and demotes your site to a distant planet on a far away galaxy. Why take the chance to lose everything you worked for?
