Welden Village

Welden is a Traditional Neighborhood Development(TND) and is being developed on a 385 acre assemblage of properties within the Southern Metro Activity Center site in the Town of Kernersville. Located within 1/2 mile of interestate 40 and a few miles north of Interstate 74, the Welden property will be one of the closest residential neighborhoods in Kernersville to the newly constructed Medical Parkway complex and a number of new job centers in the Triad. Welden is made up of three primary neighborhoods and several smaller pocket neighborhoods. Plans call for approximately 1,400 new homes and another 400 apartment homes. The 145,000 square foot Neighborhood Shopping District and Village Center is adjacent to Old Salem Road and NC Highway 66 and contains a grocery store site, several tracts for restaurants and business services which will provide many new retail options for the more than 23,000 employees working in Kernersville and those commuting between Greensboro and Winston Salem. The plan has left generous room for civic buildings including multiple church sites and a location for a YMCA that can service the southeast portion of Forsyth County. The current plan features more than 40 parks, plazas, squares and other open spaces with approximately 10 miles of walking trails, pathways and sidewalks projected throughout the site.
