Of course Morse Code is no longer required to become a FCC licensed Amateur Radio Operator. But like Ham Radio itself, it is more popular than ever. There are over 700,000 FCC licensed Hams in the US and nearly 3 Million worldwide. More than at any time in the past. And the numbers grow every month. Amateur Radio is truly the hobby and public service medium for the 21st century. We make contacts with hand held radios via our own satellites, talk to the astronauts on the International Space Station (most of whom are hams), bounce signals off the moon and meteor trails, launch low orbit (90,000 feet) balloons with Ham radio and video communications, and talk with other Hams in almost every country in the world. Sometimes the talk is very technical and sometimes it is just about how your day is going. Amateur Radio is the Original Social Media.
