An exciting year is ahead of us! I hope that you are enjoying a wonderful summer break as we get ready for the start of classes. Practices and team meetings are under way and the staff is busy at work preparing materials. Soon we will see construction equipment arrive and our campus will begin to change. I hope you share my enthusiasm for the coming year!

I’m certain that there are many questions regarding the distribution of class schedules, locker assignments, parking permits, and Senior Privileges. This letter should help to answer many of those questions.

Please pay close attention to the dates and times for orientation, schedule pick-up, and parking permits as they will help to start the year off on a successful note.

Freshman and New Student Orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 16th. Orientation begins at 9:00am in the Westlake City Schools Performing Arts Center and will conclude by 11am. Parents are encouraged to stay for the orientation. I would like to see as many Parents as possible in attendance.

Enclosed with a letter that you will receive at home is a packet of forms for the new school year. These forms must be filled out and turned in to school. I ask that each Freshman bring these completed forms with them to orientation. We will collect the completed forms and give each student their schedule and locker assignment. We look forward to meeting all members of the class of 2015.

All Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors will be able to exchange their completed packets of information for their schedules as follows: Seniors on August 16th from 2-4pm and 5-7pm. Juniors on August 17th from 9am to noon, and Sophomores on August 18th from 9am to noon.
No schedules will be distributed without the completed forms turned in.

Parking Permits will be available to our Senior students during their schedule pick-up on August 16th through 3pm Friday, August 19th. Juniors may purchase their parking permits in the attendance office, beginning at 7:30am on Monday, August 22nd through 3pm on August 23rd. Sophomores will be able to purchase any remaining parking permits after 7:15am on August 24th.

Workbooks will be available on schedule pick up days. Please consult the Workbook Order Form included in the mailing to see if you need to purchase a workbook for any of your classes.

Senior Privilege Applications will also be available to fill out on the 16th. Parking permits and Senior Privilege Applications require a Parent signature to be complete and a parent accompanying the student on the 16th will expedite the process. Applications will be reviewed and Senior Privilege cards distributed during the first week of school.

I encourage all students to submit their completed forms and pick up their schedules on the appropriate days. Having your materials before the first day of school will assist in a more productive start to the school year. As a result, our Guidance Department will be available to address schedule conflicts or errors prior to the start of classes.

Please take note that there has been a change to the school day here at Westlake High School. Classes will begin each day at 7:55am and conclude at 2:55pm. The overall structure of the daily schedule remains unchanged and students will be provided a new bell schedule with their materials.

The start of the 2011-2012 school year will bring changes to the traffic patterns for drop off and pick up. As construction gets under way, we will do our best to keep you informed and help with transition.
