The Field Station is part of Westminster College's Outdoor Laboratory for Biological and Environmental Sciences. The 55-acre area was acquired by Westminster in 1964 and designated as a site for field studies, research, recreation, and environmental awareness in 1980. From the main campus, it can be reached by a short walk along the Frey Nature Trail. The Field Station includes a Nature Center which is used for classes and community events, an array of solar panels, experimental plots, a weather station, the Sandy Edmiston Memorial Labyrinth, a microforest and arboretum, and a wide variety of habitats including forest, wetland, lowland thicket, field, marsh, a spring-fed stream, and the Little Neshannock Creek.
