Major trails are built as loops, with connector trails, so that users may go on short or long outings. Elevations range from about 6300 to about 9000 feet, with trails of easy to moderate difficulty. The WMTS is in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests of NE Arizona, part of an extensive Ponderosa pine forest that goes from west of Flagstaff AZ into the western part of New Mexico. These forests are home to many species of wildlife, including: elk, deer, antelope, turkey, javelina, bear, & mountain lion. WMTS is built & maintained by TRACKS, a non-profit volunteer organization.
