Whitehurst Hall, overlooking the Elizabeth River, is a big draw for sports-and health-minded students.
Directly behind the hall is a two-net volleyball sand pit, a gazebo, and a wooden boardwalk and pier.
Whitehurst was constructed in 1983 and consists of two six-story towers housing 594 freshmen residents. Located within Whitehurst are study lounges, laundry rooms, a convenience store and a dining center. Each room accommodates two residents and is fully furnished with bunkable beds, desks, chairs, book shelves, dressers, trash cans and sink vanity.
