In the United States, community foundations began in 1914 in an effort to help a large number of people help their communities. Since March 1999, Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation has been helping by making endowments and other charitable funds that serve non-profits, varied charitable activities, students seeking college scholarships, and other special needs (Rural Fire Department, Weather Spotters). Thanks to the J.S. Bridwell Foundation, Perkins-Prothro Foundation, The Priddy Foundation and the dedicated board members, the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation had a good start and has grown at a steady pace.
