More about Wild Swan Theater

WILD SWAN THEATER 2013-2014 SEASON
All performances are held at Towsley Auditorium, Morris Lawrence Building, Washtenaw Community College.

The Ugly Duckling – (World Premiere!) (Grades PreK- 2) October 17 - 19
Resident playwright Jeff Duncan puts his spin on Hans Christian Andersen’s tale of a homely little bird born in a barnyard who is looked down on by everyone around him until, much to his delight (and to the surprise of others), he matures into a beautiful swan, the most beautiful bird of all.

The Firebird (Grades K – 5) November 21 - 24
Young Ivan, Prince of Russia, must outwit one evil character after another in his quest to find the Firebird who has been stealing the Czar’s golden apples. A thrilling version of the classic Russian folktale, Wild Swan's production features a host of fantastical creatures including the witch Baba Yaga, Nurl the Gnome, and Sistchik the Snake King as well as swirling Russian folk dancing set to a lively balalaika score.

Owl’s Winter (Grades PreK – 2) January 23 - 25
A delightful collection of stories for young children based on Arnold Lobel's Owl at Home. A first introduction to theater especially created to draw young theater goers into the world of theater arts with these carefully chosen and shaped stories.

Under the African Sky (Age 4 – 3rd Grade) February 12 & 13
A delightful collection of African tales performed through storytelling, acting, dancing, and drumming. Colorful costumes, masks, and traditional music will delight and teach our littlest fans, with lots of opportunities for audience participation!

Coming to America (Grades 3 – 8) March 13 - 15
Back by popular demand, we will present this stirring musical production about immigration, following the journeys of 4 children from different parts of the world who make their way to a new life in America. With a beautiful set of songs by Laz Slomovits of Gemini, the production weaves together the separate stories of children from Russia, Viet Nam, the Dominican Republic, and Lebanon as they overcome enormous obstacles in their quest for a better life.

Once Upon a Time (Grades Prek – 2) March 27 - 29
An engaging collection of favorite children’s classics including “Three Billy Goat’s Gruff” and “The Three Little Pigs” are sure to delight the very young. In true Wild Swan style, three performers and a musician create all the magic inherent in these timeless stories making this first time theater experience unforgettable.

Wizard of Oz (Grades K – 5) May 1 - 4
Adapted for Wild Swan by our resident playwright Jeff Duncan, this non-musical version of L. Frank Baum’s beloved story is a treat for the whole family. Join Dorothy and her little dog Toto as they set out on the Yellow Brick Road with their new friends the Scarecrow, the Tinman, and the Cowardly Lion on their way to the fabled land of Oz.
